Gu Ailing of China, an 18-year-old star, made her Olympic debut( 首 秀 ) on Feb 7, competing in the women’s freeski big air qualification. This is also one of Gu’s three freestyle skiing events at the Winter Olympics.

Su Yiming, a Chinese snowboarder, believes the two Olympic medals he won at the Beijing Winter Games were the best gifts for his 18th birthday.
“The gold and silver medals mean a lot to me. People can see how hard I’ve been working to achieve them,” Su said in an interview with China Daily in Beijing. “And there are many people behind me who have been supporting, helping and loving me. I have been dreaming about this moment for the past four years, day and night. My big dream has come true.”
He said that he started to practice snowboarding when he was 4, because his parents both love snowboarding. At that time, snowboarding was just a sport for fun. But after he knew about the Beijing Winter Games at 14, he realized this could be a life-changing chance.
“I told myself that I was going to try to reach the Olympic Games, and I would never give up trying to win medals. The reason why I’m doing all this training and taking part in competitions is because of love,” said Su.
The first time Su competed at a World Cup was in 2019, when he was just 15 years old. “I missed the final by just one spot at that time at 11th place. So from that time, I saw the difference between me and those top riders. That pushed me harder in the past three years. Now finally I got my best birthday gift.”
